Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup January 6 & 7, 2017

RB Leipzig

One name is causing for sensation in soccer: opinions tend to differ sharply in RB Leipzig. Some envy the locals for the generous sponsor others respect them for managing their money carefully.

As the club RB Leipzig only exists in this form since May 2009, of course, none of the players from their own youth performers has made it to the Bundesliga teams. Even the regular members of the U19 do not consist of "homegrown players,” but of players that were brought to Leipzig. Like so many things in Leipzig, they also perfect their youth development: From the twelve players with whom RB competes at the Glaspalast, eight of them are already youth national players in their native country. Together they come to 76 national games. Right at the first performance in Sindelfingen, the locals belong to the closest favorite circle. For many people in Leipzig, the trip to Sindelfingen is a trip into the past: Sports manager Ralf Rangnick, head of the youth training Frieder Schrof and, head of the youth sports academy Thomas Ahlbeck, were already involved several times in the junior cup.

Whoever knows these three knows: On the way to the top, nothing is left to chance.
