Rapid Wien wins the Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup

Successful against the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the final / Best player of the tournament is Julian Küssler (SK Rapid Wien)

For the second time in a row, the young professionals of the Bundesliga had to bow to the foreign competition at the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup. The winner of the world’s best U19 indoor tournament, playing to a full house with over 5.000 viewers, became the SK Rapid Wien after a 1:0 victory against the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Nearly 10.000 viewers observed in two days the indoor soccer games at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen. Crowned was the well-deserved tournament winner in full view of prominent figures like world champion Guido Buchwald, European champion Fredi Bobic, Daniel Ginczek from VfB Stuttgart, Timo Hildebrand, Andreas Müller, and the U-19 national team coach Marcus Sorg. The traditional club of Austria remained undefeated as the only team and had with Julian Küssler the best player of the tourney.

In the last minute of a hard-fought game, Rapid succeeded with the decisive goal against the soon to be professional coach Julian Nagelsmann’s youth team of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The team of Baden proved to be the best German team of the tournament. All German U19 Champion of the past five years were present in Sindelfingen.

Third place made the Junior Cup debutant VfL Wolfsburg, who had been defeated against Rapid Wien in the semifinals. In an exciting match for the third place, Wolfsburg beat the FC Schalke 04 with 2:0.

At the tournament of the trainees, the factory of Dusseldorf won against the factory of Mannheim. After a long leading position of the Rhinelander, Mannheim succeeded with a tying goal 30 seconds before ending. Ultimately, the factory of Dusseldorf won after a penalty (9 meters) with 4:3. The factory of Sindelfingen, winner of the past three years, lost against the factory of Untertürkheim (1:2) at the match for the third place. Best player of the tournament became Markus Schneider from the factory of Sindelfingen, who the jury awarded in 2014 for the second time.
